Sweet stuffed buns

“One of the very nicest things about life Is the way we must regularly stop Whatever it is we’re doing and devote our attention to eating”

These beautiful golden brown hand sized sweet pirozhki (stuffed buns) are filled with Saskatoon berries that I got from one of the latest trip to our local farmers market. I brought the berries into a simmer in the pot, added some sugar, lemon juice, vanilla and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

This buns are so popular in Ukraine, that probably every woman who loves baking has her own secret recipe that was passed down in the family for generations. There’s also around hundred of different stuffings I can think of that are widely used. Berries, fruits and jams, grounded meat or mushrooms, rice and boiled eggs, sauerkraut, boiled potatoes or liver, fish or popysseds… They are so versatile and that is what makes them awesome.
